Move Metrics Soil Movement Map
The Soil Movement Map is made up of straight lines that connect locations where dirt must be removed to the closest field position where that soil can be deposited.
Map color relates to how much soil passes over each location in the field.
The map is constructed by laying down connection lines in order of ascending length.
This map can help to delineate regions of the field that balance locally. This is where earthworks can be performed in the delineated region without transporting soil from/to other parts of the field.
If the map is characterized by instances of long connecting lines it may indicate that the design has areas that do not balance locally. This may indicate a suboptimal design that was created without regard to haul distances.
Using the animated version of the map allows you to pause and reverse the operation to understand where critical movement breaks and regions occur.
Some soil movement maps show long linear features with high volumes. In this case it may be worthwhile considering using these patterns as a guide for haul roads to optimize this movement.
